To us, these antiques represent a part of Japan’s rich culture and heritage, allowing us to appreciate their beauty and history while having the opportunity to integrate them into our daily lives. FUMIJEAN goes beyond antiques to showcase contemporary works created by modern artists and craftsmen who use a traditional techniques, highlighting the connection between past and present in Japan.

Japanese ceramics have been highly regarded worldwide for centuries. The history of Japanese ceramics dates to the Jomon period (13,000 BCE to 300 BCE,) and perfecting the process of making earthenware by firing
clay took a considerable amount of time.

It’s no wonder that Japanese ceramics have been cherished for their quality, artistic expression, diversity, and beauty. Japan is unique in its tradition of producing pottery in every region, with almost every prefecture creating its own unique style of ceramics by utilizing materials specific to that region.

The stunning variation in colors, styles, shapes, sizes, and textures across Japanese ceramics is a testament to the rich artisan skills, individuality, beauty, and deep history and tradition is embedded within each
piece.
